IDEA Lab: James Baldwin, In Conversation with America In-Person
High Library is kicking off Black History Month with an exhibit that highlights one of the great American writers and thinkers of the 20th century, James Baldwin. The exhibit provides background on Baldwin's life and work with a focus on Baldwin's engagement with the subject of racial inequality in America and his continued cultural relevance. It will include coverage of his involvement with the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and 60’s, his influential book, The Fire Next Time (1963), and the intersection of queerness and race in his writing. (Etown Blue Print Program: DIVERSE1, 3 units)
The exhibit also touches on themes from the award-winning 2016 documentary film on Baldwin, I Am Not Your Negro, which the library will be screening for faculty, staff, and students on February 28 at 7 pm in the KAV.
The exhibit and film screening are co-sponsored by the Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. Please note that the exhibit is free and open to the public.
